蟲草花具有性平味甘、健脾益肺、補益肝腎的特性，對於脾胃氣血較弱的人可適量進食。特別對孕婦而言，蟲草花滋補而又不溫燥，不易上火，對孕婦而言可謂產後補身不二之選。
資深註冊營養師葉俊言指，蟲草花能夠提升上呼吸道的免疫力，有著止咳、預防氣管炎等功效，另外蟲草花屬菇菌類，纖維較高，除了可降低膽固醇，亦可幫助腸道蠕動，清除宿便。另外蟲草花屬食材，並非一種正式的藥類，大部份人皆可食用。
葉俊言亦說，蟲草花是種天然調味劑，本身有充足味道，煮食時加入蟲草花可減少鹽或豉油等調味料的加入，變相減少鈉的吸收，對血壓亦有幫助。
